I remember it as though it were just yesterday
I was a young buck standing right on top of the world
I was a wild boozing legend down in Texas
When I ran into that heavy drinking girl

It took place in a cantina down in Juarez
She was sitting on a barstool all alone
I confidently sauntered up beside her
How was I to know that soon I’d change my tone

The first shot of tequila went down easy
By five and six I’d abandoned salt and lime
I began to realize I was in trouble
When by shot thirteen she hadn’t blinked an eye

You drank me under the table again
Be it whiskey wine tequila rum or gin
Might be stubborn pride or suicide as I try not to give in
Try as I might I lost the fight and I know I’ll never win

I knew that I had found my loving woman
When she began chasing her tequila with gin
But I must admit it gets a bit frustrating
Now she’s laughing as my head begins to spin

I tell you that it was a mighty battle
Though the only one that fought it was me
I must have fallen right out of the saddle
I don’t remember falling asleep beneath that tree
